Schools and IM

"School districts across the U.S. struggle with the combination of two harsh realities: an increasing intensity of budget cuts for 2010-11, and complying with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
which guarantees "free appropriate" education to all disabled students including the growing number of students with anAutism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)." Read more here.

This article addresses precisely why your teacher may not recommend or even know about IM or other interventions that might be helpful for your child. We as a nation have placed our schools in an impossible situation! With out funding for higher end interventions, they can not recommend them. The truth of the matter is, I found help for my child when I went outside the traditional school system. Many of my IM parents have shared the same disheartening experience.  We've placed our school systems between a rock and a hard place, either recommend and offer extremely helpful higher end interventions and go bankrupt, or don't mention these interventions or even have the time to learn about them and offer 1950's education to an increasing number of of children with modern environmentally induced* neuro-developmental delays. Either way our nations children pay the price. This problem needs a solution.

* Environmentally induced - whether you believe the increasing number of students with neurodevelopment delays is caused by a toxic environment (my belief) or by too many electronics ( plays a role as well) or lack of parent involvement (also important but many many parents that have exceptional parenting skills are still struggling with these neurodevelopment delays in their children), these are all characteristics of our present day environment. 2010 is different than 1950.  The result is more children are struggling today.
