My Child is constantly making noises.

Last week I saw a student who's mom reported that her son is constantly making noises.

I hear this often!  IM seems to help calm the noises in most cases. (For tic related noises - see my Tourette's posts - a bit different.) Some children constantly hum or make sucking sounds with their lips, or other weird noises. This can be a attempt of theirs to quiet their disorganized brain and can also be very annoying. The Brain Highways site has a very nice video about an immature mid brain explaining this phenomenon quite well. Check it out here.

Comparing IM to the Brain Highways Program.  The huge similarity between IM and Brain Highways is MOVEMENT.  Movement is the catalyst for change in both programs.Looking at the parts, IM seems to impact all of the lower and mid brain regions mentioned on the Brain Highways site. IM also contains many frontal lobe components including analyzing, goal setting, monitoring and predicting as well as some limbic system control thereby impacting social/emotional stability and skills. I am not familiar enough with the details of the brain highways program to know if it consciously targets the frontal lobes and limbic system or not.

A major difference between IM and the Brain Highways program is that: IM uses a computer based feedback system. This allows the child to receive extremely accurate feedback and helps the child complete an enormous amount of repetition in a short amount of time. The accuracy and frequency, in other words the intensity of the IM program can thereby bring major changes in 10 to 15 sessions - an amazingly fast response time.  Though I'm less familiar with the Brain Highways program, theoretically, it looks to be a wonderful program as well.  I commend them for doing an excellent job helping parents understand that their child is not just 'being lazy.' but that immature brain regions can absolutely make life more difficult than it need be. Thank you Brain Highways for your wonderful video series.

Again, here's the brain highways link. The videos are all great but the midbrain on is the one that covers students who constantly make noise.
