Executive Functioning - the skills IM seems to impact greatly.

Here are 3 core executive functioning (EF) skills impacted by IM that Dr. Adele Diamond discusses in her presentation.

1 Inhibitory control (self control)
2.Working Memory -(attention)

3.Cognitive Flexibility -(awareness of other perspectives, shifting gears)

Adele Diamond, from the University of British Columbia, was UC Davis MIND Institutes most recent lecturer talking about Cognitive Control in the Younger Child. If you are an educator or have preschool children at home the 6 pm lecture is a must see.

Dr. Diamond describes Executive Functions (EF) extremely well, clear and understandable- a rarity sometimes with scientific information. I think if you can't watch the whole presentation, just watching the first 10 minutes to get a useful picture of what executive functions are would definitely be worth your time. These EF skills are exactly the areas that I see gains in IM so much of the time. Many parents have a hard time putting into words what they are seeing. I hope Dr. Diamond's eloquent descriptions might help you. Here are the 3 core EF skills she describes in detail in her presentations.

1 Inhibitory control (self control)
2.Working Memory -(attention)

3.Cognitive Flexibility -(awareness of other perspectives, shifting gears)
