This continuation of Dr. Tony Simon's UC Davis MIND Institute presentation and Q and A about children with a specific genetic conditions which looks like NVLD shares his thoughts. He believes the minds at UC Davis are very close to knowing how to 'fix' these brains.
Dr. Simon believes that the problems arise from more basic circuits, called the sub-cortical areas of the brain that are very early on in the attentional system. Too bad he ended his next talk saying that the ideas in his head are intellectual property of UC Davis and watch for more information soon.
I'm thinking subcoritcal areas - basal ganglia, cerebellum, hippo campus, he mentioned a lot of the these areas were close to the midline area of the brain. I would love to have more information here! As parents, this field is changing every year. You need to be actively keeping track of the new information available because help IS coming. IM is a great beginning, but I know there's more coming. Neuroplasticity - how we will help our children! And, I must add, let's start limiting the toxins too and see if we can't prevent some of these insults before they happen!
