Comparing IM Home and iLs

I have added two new programs to my offerings lately, IM Home and iLs. This post will help parents make an educated decision before they move forward with either one. Here is my list of comparing the two. IM Home is the home version of Interactive Metronome.  iLs is Integrated Listening Systems.

Similarities:

IM Home and iLs both change the brain through neuro-plasticity. They both address the cause of the challenges rather than managing a symptom. The gains are permanent in both.

IM Home and iLs both tremendously help the brain disconnect issues frequently found in sensory processing challenges and SPD.

IM Home and iLs  equipment is purchase and owned by you.

IM Home and iLs are very flexible for home use.

IM Home and iLs required a minimum of 3, one hour sessions/week but 5 sessions/week is recommended.

IM Home and iLs clients typically see gains in sensory processing, gross and fine motor skills, social and emotional stability, attention and focus, language processing.

IM Home and iLs both require one on one undivided positive attention from the parent every session. This is a must for success! This is your child’s motivation! Be motivational!

IM Home and iLs are foundationally auditory in nature with movement integrated in the program.

Differences:

IM Home is much more intense, hence you see gains faster with IM typically. BUT because IM is so intense, you will also be more likely to trigger sensory overload.

Almost all parents can implement iLs at home, not all parents can implement IM Home successfully – again this is due to IM’s intensity.

iLs will typically take two to three times longer to see the same amount of gain as with IM. Gains may be slightly different in nature as well, again this is due to the intensity level difference.

iLs equipment can be purchased back by me after use. IM's equipment may not be resold.

More than one person can use the iLs equipment at no additional cost, there is a $200 license fee for each additional person using the IM Home equipment.

iLs requires bi weekly to monthly follow up's with Lori at $50 - $75 each ( depending on the length). IM requires daily touching base by email at a cost of $100/10,000 reps after the first 50,000 reps that comes with the program.

iLs  has limited application. When you are done with the iLs programs, you cannot modify the program to impact other brain networks. iLs has an end point. IM is endless. You can continuously target different mental processes through the IM equipment by altering visual, auditory, movement, and task requirements.  IM can be fine tuned for targeting specific mental processes in depth. You can go significantly farther with IM.

IM can target brain imbalance, or hemisphericity, found frequently with the student's diagnosed ASD, ADD, or LD.  iLs does not specifically address brain imbalance.

iLs targets the wave lengths for human speech for student's with auditory processing issues. IM does not specifically address the various frequencies of language.

I LOVE IM - I cannot say enough how much I LOVE that program, it changes lives - absolutely. But I do want parents to be more cautious when they think they can easily do IM Home at home. It takes commitment, patience and energy. On the other hand, I can easily recommend iLs as an at home program for dedicated parents. Most parents, if they put in the time, find success with iLs.  If in doubt, I recommend parents try the iLs program first for the child with over 100 ms average or lots of sensory processing issues.  Sometimes, after a student gets through iLs, they can get through IM Home. I think IM can go farther than iLs, so eventually I want to get the child through IM too, but finding the best fit for your child is what is most important.  I hope this helps you decide.
